Cue violins

July 11, 2007

It’s the one week a year when we need air conditioning. At least my office has it…

The temperature hit 94 degrees just before 1 p.m. today, tying the all-time record.

The record was set originally on Aug. 9, 1960, and matched on Aug. 8, 1978.

Today’s temperature blew past the previous record for July 11 – 89 degrees in 1951.

Now that’s a Sunday

June 25, 2007

Rob trotted off this morning to be a fight coordinator on a friend’s movie, so I watched Fight Girls on TiVo, then rolled over on the couch Andy Capp-style and napped til 2 p.m. when Rob called to ask me to come visit him on set.

What? And interrupt my busy schedule?

Poor Isis slept on the floor during my endless sleep. Rob’s outside with her now, tossing her the soccer ball. It hailed earlier, but now the sun’s here. Guess I better take Stew out for some Vitamin D therapy.

Welcome, Summer

June 21, 2007

Here’s what Al Roker had to say about it, “Wet weather in the Pacific Northwest.”

That’s what he always says.

Unacceptable

June 17, 2007

It’s mid-June! I shouldn’t have to have the heat on in my house!

Living is easy

June 13, 2007

It’s cold and dreary out, but it feels like summertime to me, because I’m working from home and drinking a cool glass of Newman’s Own Limeade. I had a coupon.

Aaahh.

Behavior problem

June 10, 2007

Isis had a sort of attitudinal day. I blame the rainy weather, because she didn’t get outside very much to play. And even though we were home, Rob and I didn’t pay too much attention to her. ‘Course that doesn’t justify her standing at my feet and barking at me. There was no good reason for that.

And let’s not even mention the 5-year-old girl who came over to visit, whose face Isis kissed with her teeth. I won’t mention it, because although the girl shrieked and cried, it didn’t leave a mark, and my mom is already afraid to come stay in the house with this dog. And my mom reads this blog.

Can’t believe they didn’t close government offices

May 30, 2007

Newspapers warn outdoor workers to drink lots of fortified beverages like Gatorade.

“Eighty degrees is a temperature range we’re not accustomed to. We don’t live in Palm Springs or in California. If you’re always in that heat, your body is acclimated to the environment. … In the Pacific Northwest, your body’s going to be stressed.”

I’m enjoying a Vitamin Water, recently purchased by Coca-Cola, in “revive” — a fruit punch flavor with potassium. Reminds me of the Snapple I drank when I was in high school, but not so sweet.

I do feel bad for those suckers in the capital, where it’s supposed to be close to 90. We don’t have air conditioning in these parts.

Fortunately for me, my house is shaded with ginormous trees and stays quite cool. At least it did during the winter. The outdoor thermometer on my kitchen window was reading 91 when I left this morning, but that’s gotta be cus it’s in the direct sun. Also lucky for me: at work, I’m the only one whose office has a window.

Goal setting

May 28, 2007

I have to post at least twice a day in order to hit 1,000 posts by my 5th Bloggiversary. Guess I better get back to taking pictures of my dog obsessively if I’m going to have a shot.

I could hit post now, and then finish my train of thought in a new post, but that would be cheating.

Judging from the brightness streaming in through my bedroom window, it’s gorgeous again today. What to do, what to do.

Although it’s a holiday, Rob is working, as he did from 6 p.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday so he could get Friday off to go to a salmon ceremony and to Portland with me this coming weekend. Road trip with the doggie!

Meanwhile, with so many things I could do with this wonderful day, I find it hard to get out of bed and into the shower. As is the case on most days, that’s the biggest challenge.

Jezise…why are they still showing excerpts of Ann Curry’s interview with Angelina Jolie? I’ve seen this six times already.

I finished “Rise and Shine” yesterday and started “Pretties” by Scott Westerfeld. Yeah, it’s a young adult book, wanna make something of it?

Reminds me of when I lived in Prague — finishing one book and starting a new one immediately. Works best when you read nothing but books you can’t put down. Or you have a lot of free time. The fact that all my shows have had their season finales is not lost on me.

A good day for the tulips

April 6, 2007

Here it is.

I have no idea who the little girl is, but don’t you kinda wish you were her?

It’s not quite the quintessential photo. That would be a baby sitting amongst the tulips. Trust me, this is my fifth tulip festival. That’s the shot to get.
